Nintendo of America President and CEO Reggie Fils-Aime has admitted that the company’s focus upon the upcoming release of its Nintendo 3DS has meant that a number of Wii games have seen some form of delay.

Whilst speaking to IGN, Fils-Aime explained that the big marketing push behind the imminent launch of the Nintendo 3DS and the release of Pokémon Black and White for Nintendo DS had meant that the company had been forced to delay some of its previously planned Wii releases to allow them “room to breathe.”

“Candidly, we had to push out some Wii launches so we could focus on our handheld business,” Fils-Aime explained. “We’re already juggling two big balls. To add a third would be a little bit challenging.”

He also made sure to defend the Wii’s current decline in sales, commenting that the system peaked in its third year rather than the more traditional expectation of beginning to fall in the second year.
