Bandai Namco Entertainment has shared the opening movie to Freedom Wars Remastered, which is out soon on Nintendo Switch.
Set in the distant future, pollution has devastated the planet and the remnants of humanity are divided between city-sized prisons called Panopticons. Resources are so scarce that living itself is a crime and those born into this hellscape are immediately given a million years of prison time.
Known as “Sinners,” the only option other than awaiting death in prison is to fight for freedom alongside their allies for resources, to rescue abducted civilians from rival enemies or to take up arms against other enemy Sinners.
The cult classic action game was originally released on PlayStation Vita, and now comes to the portable home console with enhancements such as an overhauled weapon crafting system, added difficulty settings and other gameplay upgrades.
Equipped with Thorn weapons to help traverse the world and subdue your enemies, these allow for fluid three-dimensional movement by jumping and grappling onto terrain. You can choose weapons with unique abilities such as setting traps, providing healing or increasing defence, and they can even be used to sever limbs or arms for additional resources. As you try to reduce your prison sentence, materials scrounged or taken from fallen enemies on the battlefield can be used to upgrade your weapons.
Freedom Wars Remastered will be released at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 10 January 2025.
