Japan’s Weekly Famitsu was as equally surprised when Fantasy Life’s sequel was revealed to only be headed to smartphones.

They had the opportunity to quiz LEVEL-5 CEO Akihiro Hino about the decision, who shared that it was made as an effort to attract a more adult audience – revealing his belief that dedicated game systems mainly draw in a younger crowd.

“I’d say Fantasy Life has elements and mechanisms which adults find soothing,” Hino began in his explanation. “Although children play games on dedicated game systems, recently many adults have been playing on smartphones.”

He later added, “The supported hardware for this game was decided based on thinking of an environment where more adults play.”
