United Label and Polygon Treehouse have shared a new trailer for Röki which will soon see release on Nintendo Switch.
This adventure game has taken inspiration from wintry Scandinavian folklore, resulting in a dark contemporary fairy tale that the developer explains is “underpinned by a touching narrative, alluring art style, ancient puzzles and atmospheric exploration.”
You play as Tove, who sets out on a fantastical journey to save her family. That will take her deep into a hidden and long-forgotten world of lost folklore, crammed with strange locations and ancient, magical creatures.
Your progress will be charted in Tove’s trusty journal, mapping uncharted regions while collecting loot and earning wilderness explorer badges.
“For our debut indie title, we wanted to depart from the ‘shooty-shooty’ games we’d made at PlayStation and make the game about family, adventure, monsters, and kindness,” explain Polygon Treehouse’s Tom Jones and Alex Kanaris-Sotiriou.
“When we started development three years ago the world was quite a different place, and we hope the game we’ve created and its themes are now more relevant and important than ever.”
Röki will release on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide in the “near future.”
