It is with deep sadness that we report that Hiroshi Yamauchi’s wife, Michiko, has passed away, such news having been confirmed by Nikkei.

Yamauchi-san joined Nintendo in 1949, serving as the company’s third president until he stepped down in 2002 to be replaced by Satoru Iwata.

He is widely regarded as the man responsible for transforming Nintendo from being a small hanafuda card-making company into one of the leading pioneers of the video game industry that we know today.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Yamauchi-san, his family and friends at such time.
