Every Game Getting A Free Nintendo Switch 2 Upgrade

Nintendo has confirmed that it will release free software updates for selected Nintendo Switch games to “improve playability” on Nintendo Switch 2.

Not to be confused with the paid Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, these free updates can be downloaded to improve resolutions, frame rates, or add support for features like GameShare. However, the contents of the free updates will differ between each game.

It isn’t clear what determines which games receive a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, compared to those that receive a free software update, like The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
