Nintendo of Europe had previously had restrictions in place, that saw 18+ rated content available through the Nintendo eShop unable to be viewed until between 11pm-3am.
Met largely negatively by those who have already invested in Nintendo’s first HD venture, it soon emerged that such decision had been made to comply with German youth protection regulation.
Thankfully, today has seen Nintendo confirm that Germany’s Entertainment Software Self-Regulation Body, the USK, deem that the company’s Parental Control efforts are “of very high quality, offering a remarkable level of protection for children.”
The result of which being that such restrictions have now been removed, with parents now tasked with determining the level of access to mature content if they so which.
“Dear Customer, Nintendo has lifted the access restrictions content rated 18+. Adults can now browse and buy all games at any time of the day,” a message on the Nintendo eShop reads.
“Following analysis of the Parental Controls system on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS in cooperation with USK, the German Entertainment Software Self-Regulation Body, it was deemed that Nintendo’s Parental Control system is of very high quality and offers a remarkable level of protection for children. Nintendo’s Parental Control system was found to have proved itself in practice.
“Nintendo always encourages parents to make use of Parental Controls to control access to content they deem inappropriate for their children.”
