Epic Games has shown interest in releasing their co-op sandbox survival game Fortnite on Nintendo Switch, which sees players cooperate to complete missions in randomly-generated maps where they must collect resources, build fortifications, and construct weapons.

The game has seen a sudden surge in popularity after the developer released Fornite Battle Royale, a free-to-play 100-player PVP mode. Whether playing individually or in four-man squads, players attempt to be the last man (or team) standing as they hunt down other players while avoiding being killed themselves.

When asked whether he was interested in releasing Fortnite on Nintendo Switch, Epic Games worldwide creative director Donald Mustard replied: “Yes. Yes I am. Hopefully we do that at some point!”

With Fortnite having been built with Unreal Engine 4, there is tangible hope that it won’t be too challenging for the developer to port over to the plucky portable home console.

Fortnite is now available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC worldwide.
