The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma has seemingly teased that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword port is in the works for Nintendo Switch, after asking concertgoers at The Legend of Zelda Concert 2018 whether they would like to see it on the portable home console.

It’s not the first time that Nintendo has pondered remastering the Wii classic for a high-definition console, their earlier exploration helping to lay the groundwork for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

“While doing PBR (physically-based rendering tests) we tried our hand at creating common cityscapes as well,” art director Satoru Takizawa explained in the GDC 2017 panel, Change and Constant – Breaking Conventions with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. “We threw models from previous titles into our new development environment and tried some HD mockups.”

Those had been for Link’s adventures in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Two of those went on to receive HD remasters on Wii U, however, we haven’t yet had the chance to return to Skyloft.

Now placed as the first game in The Legend of Zelda timeline, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword was a controversial one. While many had praised the game’s storyline, combat and ingenious dungeon puzzles, the poor pacing and inconsistency with Wii Remote Plus were sticking points that quickly emerged as key criticisms.
