The Entertainment Software Association has confirmed that E3 2022 will once again be an online-only event, in response to concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Due to the ongoing health risks surrounding COVID-19 and its potential impact on the safety of exhibitors and attendees, E3 will not be held in person in 2022,” the ESA shared in a statement to GamesBeat. “We are nonetheless excited about the future of E3 and look forward to announcing more details soon.”
This will be the second year in a row that the Electronic Entertainment Expo has been a digital-only showcase, with the rapid spread of the Omicron variant preventing a return to an in-person event at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
E3 2019 was the last time that the event was held at the venue, which had attracted 66,100 attendees. That number had dropped compared to E3 2018, which drew in 69,200 attendees.
