Square Enix has announced that localisation work has started on Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, that will receive a western release next year.

“Last year, the Dragon Quest series marked its 30th anniversary. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be able to continue to develop this game for over 30 years,” Dragon Quest game designer shared in a video message.

“Koichi Sugiyama, who composed the music. Akira Toriyama, who designed the characters. And, Slime here, who has continuously greeted adventurers… I am extremely grateful for all of them.

“Dragon Quest XI is a story about a hero. Moreover, the adventure begins slightly unconventionally with a ‘pursued hero.’ By the time this video is being played the game would be released in Japan, and many adventurers would already be born.

“And, not only the Japanese fans, I’m sure the western fans, have been eagerly anticipating a localisation of Dragon Quest XI.

“Well, let me take this opportunity to announce that the localisation for Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age has already begun. The game is currently being localised into five languages, including English.

“There’s quite a lot of text, so it’s an exorbitant amount of work. But, we’re doing out best and working hard to get this game to all of you as soon as possible, so I sincerely hope you look forward to the game.”

Square Enix adds that “more details about the western version will be revealed in Autumn 2017,” with the game to be localised into English, French, Spanish, Italian and German.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age will release across North America and Europe in 2018.
