Dragon Quest 11 nearly became the first title to be announced for Nintendo NX, with Square Enix sharing that they are considering developing the game for Nintendo’s new “dedicated game platform” at a conference held in Japan this morning.

Square Enix are also considering porting Dragon Quest 10: Awakening of the Five Race Online, which has yet to see release outside of Japan.

The publisher were discussing their plans for their acclaimed role-playing series in advance of its 30th anniversary celebrations next year. Several games are planned, but Dragon Quest 11 headlined them all and is also in development for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS.

Directed by Takeshi Uchikawa, both versions will share the same narrative although, somewhat expectedly, won’t have visual parity.

The 3DS version is being developed by the same core team with assistance from Toylogic, with early footage showing 3D visuals on the main screen with the touchscreen sporting more 2D spirte-based graphics.
