With the news that DOOM Eternal has been delayed into next year, Bethesda Softworks and id Software have added that DOOM 64 has suffered a similar fate.

Now to be made available as a DOOM Eternal pre-order bonus, it will no longer release on Nintendo Switch this November – now being released on 20th March 2020 “on all platforms.”

“DOOM 64 will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC in addition to Nintendo Switch,” the developer explained in an update.

“We are adding DOOM 64 as a pre-order bonus for DOOM Eternal on all platforms, so you’ll be able to download and play this classic game, for free, just for pre-ordering DOOM Eternal. DOOM 64 will be released on March 20, 2020 on all platforms.”

The classic first-person shooter was originally released for the Nintendo 64 in 1997, and, set after DOOM II, saw the lone Marine that had survived the horrors of Hell return to Earth to reclaim the planet from the demonic invasion that nearly left the human race extinct.

Midway Games was the developer behind DOOM 64, which was created under id Software’s watchful supervision. The game introduced the laser-based Unmaker, which, after collecting three ancient artifacts in-game, would let the player shoot three laser beams at enemies.

DOOM 64 will release on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 20th March 2020.
