Game Informer have passed verdict on Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, providing the first review for the latest jungle capers Retro Studio.

And it’s a rather positive critique, seeing the monthly American magazine award the Wii U exclusive a rather sumptuous 9.25 score. Much of their praise is lauded on the game world’s variety, which, whilst initially having seemed generic to the reviewer, also maintain a great difficulty balance throughout.

Dixie and Cranky Kong, additions to the roster over Wii’s Donkey Kong Country Returns, are described as useful in tackling certain platforming challenges or reaching obscure collectibles, with the only criticism being placed on local multiplayer which “is as much a mixed bag as the first installment.”

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze will release for Wii U across North America and Europe on February 21st.
