Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze opening week sales in Japan disappoint

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze saw release across Japan on on February 13th, although opening week sales will surely have proved a disappointment to Nintendo.

The Wii U exclusive achieved sales of 35,717 copies, placing it second within the week’s chart and as the highest new entry. Slightly positive news then, but this was only a 35.28 percent sell-through of stock delivered to retailers.

That was a comparitively lower than debut sales for Donkey Kong Country Returns (163,310 copies) and the 3DS port (104,569 copies), with Wii U hardware sales only marginally increasing by 1,600 units compared to the previous week.

Somewhat ironically, Media Create suggested that heavy snow throughout Tohoku and Northern Kanto regions could have contributed to such low sales over last weekend, saying that sales should be observed over next few weeks.
