Donkey Kong and Bowser join Skylanders SuperChargers

Today’s Nintendo Digital Event saw the announcement that Nintendo have collaborated with Activision to bring Donkey Kong and Bowser to Skylanders SuperChargers as guest stars.

Turbo Charge Donkey Kong and Hammer Slam Bowser will be available exclusively in Skylanders SuperChargers Starter Packs for Wii U, Wii and Nintendo 3DS, each being treated to their own figures and vehicles.

Activision notes that this is “a first-of-its-kind collaboration for the Skylanders franchise,” which sees players able to choose whether to use them in Skylanders SuperChargers and as amiibo by twisting the base of each figure.

Developer Vicarious Vision have looked to honour the the personalities and heritage of each character, with Turbo Charge Donkey Kong’s powers and attacks including barrel throws and exploding bongos. Whereas Hammer Slam Bowser’s powers range from commanding Koopas, summoning Warp Pipes and fierce fire-breathing attacks.

Their accompanying custom designed, playable vehicles are Barrel Blaster and Clown Cruiser.

“Activision Blizzard has always cherished our collaboration with Nintendo, and we are grateful for decades of partnership,” comments Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick. “Since we made the first toys-to-life game, some of our most dedicated players have been Nintendo fans around the world. Skylanders is delighted to welcome beloved guest stars Donkey Kong and Bowser into its magical world.”

Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata adds, “Activision’s Skylanders games have been very popular on Nintendo platforms, and we hope this collaboration will delight fans of the franchise. We believe this unique approach will help expand the entire category and make it appealing to even more players.”

The Skylanders SuperChargers Starter Pack on Wii U will include Turbo Charge Donkey Kong and his signature vehicle, Barrel Blaster, while the Wii and Nintendo 3DS Starter Packs will include Hammer Slam Bowser and his signature vehicle, Clown Cruiser.
