Nintendo and Illumination have revealed that Donald Glover voices Yoshi in the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
“Now you’ve met many of the voices bringing our world to life, and in today’s trailer, you heard from the great Wart voiced by the acclaimed Luis Guzmán,” Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri began in today’s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Direct.
“And there are characters you haven’t met yet, including the imposing ruler of the Honeyhive Galaxy, Honey Queen, voiced by the brilliant Issa Rae.
“Oh, and Yoshi. Since he appeared in our recent trailer, many of you have wondered who’s voicing the character. So, there is this incredibly talented actor who also happens to be a Nintendo superfan, and I’m excited to share with you today that the voice of Yoshi is Donald Glover.
“Now, there’s plenty more to discover when you see the film in theaters – some big surprises and some very small – and I want to wish you all a Happy Mario Day!”
The film stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Brie Larson as Rosalina.
“Mario and Luigi, the twin plumbers, apply their ‘let’s-a-go’ attitude to solve everyday problems all over their new home of the Mushroom Kingdom,” the movie’s story synopsis reads. “As they support Princess Peach and work to reform a miniaturised imprisoned Bowser, they meet a new companion – Yoshi.
“Princess Peach’s birthday party sparks a galactic adventure, sending the brothers into space to stop Bowser Jr.’s wicked ambitions and save Rosalina.
“The addition of the beloved characters Rosalina and Bowser Jr. adds extra spice of big action, comedy, and some shocking revelations to the adventure!”
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be released in theatres in the United States “and many additional markets globally” from Wednesday 1 April 2026. It will be released in Japan on 24 April 2026, and in other select territories throughout April.
