Dentsu Entertainment USA and Disney XD have entered an agreement that will see the television channel broadcast Yo-kai Watch‘s animated comedy series across the United States.

That will see 26 half-hour episodes air on Disney XD and some Disney XD-branded platforms, with LEVEL-5 leading rights management and marketing coordination for the franchise under a newly formed company based in Los Angeles.

Yo-kai Watch follows the misadventures of an average human boy and his interaction with mischievous Yo-kai all around him. When he obtains a special watch, it empowers him to discover and summon the mysterious Yo-kai to then befriend them and work together to solve everyday problems – often caused by other Yo-kai.

It was also shared that Mar Vista Entertainment have been granted media, licensing and merchandising rights for Latin America.

“When we were creating the world of Yo-kai Watch for TV and video games, we thoroughly researched kids’ perspectives, to capture what they are worried about in everyday situations,” explains LEVEL-5 president Akihiro Hino.

“In Yo-kai Watch, each challenge they face is caused by a certain Yo-kai – a concept that is highly relate-able for kids, and we are looking forward to introducing this exceptional content in the US and abroad.”

Dentsu Entertainment USA’s senior vice president of global strategy and development Marc Harrington adds, “Programs with such proven and broad appeal like YO-KAI WATCH are few and far between. We are very excited to be working with Disney XD on the program’s U.S. debut!”
