Disney XD continues their experimentation with eSports programming by joining forces with Nintendo of America for Clash of Karts: Mario Kart 8.
Fortune reports that the one-hour special will air on Saturday 5th December at 8pm, and will pit four two-person teams of children against one another in a Mario Kart 8 tournament played live in front of a young audience.
The competitors, aged between 13-17 years old, were coached by YouTube influencers such as Mari Takahashi, Meghan Camarena, Seth Bling and Andre Meadows, with Alison Haislip and Matt Rife hosting the competition.
The programme follows the channel broadcasting the Nintendo World Championships 2015 earlier in the year, which had taken place before E3 2015 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. With viewers staying tuned throughout, it has opened the door for Disney XD to explore further opportunities in the eSports space.
