Disney Interactive has confirmed a release date for Disney Illusion Island on Nintendo Switch next year, news that was shared in this week’s Nintendo Direct presentation.
In this 2D co-op platformer adventure, you will have the chance to join Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy on a quest to explore the mysterious island of Monoth in an effort to recover the three mystical Tomes that once protected it to save the world from disaster.
Dlala Studios is the developer behind the game, who most recently worked on the Battletoads reboot for Xbox One and Windows PC. With the voice actors for Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy and an original orchestral score, you can either play solo or team up with up to three friends in local co-op. Adventuring with others will let you use special team skills such as Rope Drop, Leap Frog and a heart-gifting Hug to save the island.
“Fans are in for a treat with the upcoming launch of the whimsical cartoon-like experience offered by Disney Illusion Island,” enthuses Disney, Pixar and 20th Century Games vice president Luigi Priore. “We’re thrilled to work with developer Dlala Studios as they expand upon the Mickey & Friends world with a new and original storyline, engaging gameplay and delightful hand-drawn art style.”
Dlala Studios lead developer AJ Grand-Scrutton adds: “Words cannot express how excited we are for players to embrace the Dlala-spin on this brand-new experience for Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy. It has been an incredible honour working on this title and we hope that Nintendo Switch players and Disney fans worldwide love playing it as much as we’ve loved creating it.”
The publisher has outlined the game’s key features as below:
- Play as Mickey & Friends: Choose your favourite character and unlock special abilities as you perform high-flying platforming feats, solve fun puzzles, and take on epic boss battles.
- Reveal the mysteries of Disney Illusion Island: Run, swim, swing, and jump your way through a beautiful yet mysterious island and discover rich biomes, intriguing characters, and hidden secrets.
- Fun with friends in 4-player co-op: Play solo or grab up to three friends to save the island of Monoth in 4-player couch co-op. Team up with friends and utilize unique skills such as Rope Drop, Leap Frog, and a heart-gifting hug.
- Be a part of an authentic Mickey cartoon: Experience a brand-new Mickey & Friends adventure with hand-drawn animation, an orchestrated original score and authentic voice talents.
Disney Illusion Island will release exclusively at retail and on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 28th July 2023.
