The latest issue of Nintendo Power has provided the initial details regarding Disney Epic Mickey 2: Power of Illusion, set to release on Nintendo 3DS later this year.
Currently in development by Dreamrift, who’s previous releases include Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure on Nintendo DS, Power of Illusion will be a side-scrolling platformer that is geared to be a sequel to 1990 Mega Drive/Genesis classic, Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse.
The Queen from Snow White will be the main antagonist, and other much-loved Disney characters will make appearances such as Scrooge McDuck.
Every level within the game is based upon an animated Disney film, examples including Sleeping Beauty and Tangled, with hand-drawn sprites and scrolling backgrounds providing a retro 16-bit look. Each enemy that you save along the way will also be gathered in Mickey’s castle, a nod toward the Suikoden series
It’ll incorporate extensive use of the stylus, tapping items within levels, such as cannons, cliffs and floating platforms, to then paint or trace them into existence. Drawing accuracy is important, with poorly drawn cannons damaging all characters whereas one more astutely traced will only attack enemies.
