Digital Foundry has cast an analytical eye over The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, once again evaluating the game’s technical performance on Wii U.

This extended analysis has been performed on gameplay footage captured directly, which they clarify is unoptimised and running on a debug console. There are some interesting points that they learned, such as that rain was removed from the E3 2016 demo build. That didn’t mean that they weren’t left with a positive impression, their immediate admiration being for the fact that Nintendo is developing a systems-driven game.

The systems that we are aware of so far include a day-to-night cycle, as well as weather, fire propagation, and physics engine. That, they say, amounts to an impressive showpiece for Nintendo, that really pushes the Wii U to the limits of what its aged hardware can achieve.

The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild will release exclusively for Nintendo NX and Wii U in 2017.
