Ziggurat Interactive has confirmed a new release window for Deadly Dozen Reloaded on Nintendo Switch.

This has seen the developer reimagine N-Fusion Interactive’s 2001 squad-based stealth game with modern updates “including a visual overhaul and enhanced squad controls.” The game’s structure “remains the same as the original release,” but “level assets, textures and character models have been rebuilt from the ground up.”

The developer has added “real-time lighting, high-quality particle effects, and other environmental effects” to provide a greater sense of realism, while the game will run at 1080p and at 30 frames-per-second.

During World War II, the United States Army had been ordered by General Dwight D. Eisenhower to recruit a special operations unit that would be capable of carrying out dangerous missions in secret. That saw them recruit 12 uniquely skilled men that each possessed the physical prowess and distaste for authority that meant they were well-suited for such an unconventional unit. They became known as the Deadly Dozen.

You will be able to select your squad of four from the roster of 12 playable characters, that each has unique stats, weapon and equipment proficiencies that will allow you to complete critical objectives behind enemy lines. It’s up to you whether you try to achieve your objective stealthily, focus on run-and-gun action or go loud with devastating explosions.

The Squad Wheel will let you command your unit, whether that be to call out movement orders, fire orders, stance or formation changes to adapt to every situation. Whereas you can swap which of your four squad members that you are playing as at any time.

“The Deadly Dozen games are unique military shooters that reward careful planning and clever tactics as much as they do pure shooting skills,” explains Ziggurat Interactive senior vice president of business development Michael Devine. “Since the release of the original game in 2001, tactical shooters exploded in popularity, and we’re delighted to introduce fans to this refreshed and enhanced version of one of the originators of the genre.”

The developer has outlined the game’s key features as below:

  • Reimagined for the Modern Era: Graphics and audio aren’t the only things that have been updated. Enemy AI is now more sophisticated, making fights more engaging, and reworked vehicle physics make driving to objectives more fun and realistic.
  • 10 Giant Missions: Large, faithfully recreated maps containing objectives that can be tackled in any order at the player’s discretion. Each mission will typically take over one hour to complete on normal difficulty.
  • Customizable Loadouts: Eleven different weapons — six American and five German — and seven types of equipment, including first aid kits, binoculars, and a variety of explosives, allow players to customize squad members to suit their play style and the mission at hand
  • No More Permadeath: Players can experience heart-pounding escapes with half of their team, and fallen squad-mates will recuperate for the next mission. No more reloading save files!

Deadly Dozen Reloaded will release digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide in Summer 2022.
