Nintendo of America has announced the Nintendo World Championships 2017, challenging Nintendo fans to put their gaming skills to the ultimate test.
After making a return at E3 2015, select Best Buy stores across the United States will host qualifying events in eight locations from Saturday 19th August to present a chance for you to earn your place. However, once again, this will only be open to legal residents in the United States (excluding Puerto Rico) and Canada (excluding Quebec).
Those that qualify will then compete at the Nintendo World Championships 2017 tournament on Saturday 7th October at the Manhattan Center’s Grand Ballroom in New York.
Players will be divided into two groups based on their age and will take each other on in Mario Kart 7 time trials. Each player will get two attempts to score the best time, and one winner from each age bracket will qualify for an invitation.
Those aged 12 and under will play as Mario on the Nintendo DS Luigi’s Mansion course using the Standard Kart, Standard Wheels and Super Glider, while those aged 13 and older will play as Bowser on the Game Boy Advance Bowser Castle 1 course using the Standard Kart, Standard Wheels and Super Glider.
The qualifying rounds will take place at Best Buy stores in New York, San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Dallas, Seattle, and Miami. For more information about the Nintendo World Championships 2017 and full rules for the qualifying events, visit the official website.
There will be demo stations to play Super Mario Odyssey and Metroid: Samus Returns in stores, and My Nintendo members can check in using their My Nintendo QR Code at any qualifier event locations to receive 100 Platinum Points. Those that are one of the first 200 to check in daily at each location will receive a My Nintendo pin as an added bonus.
