Compete In Pokémon Trading Card Game Matches At SPIEL 2016

The Pokémon Company International has announced that Pokémon Trading Card Game matches to SPIEL 2016, which will see Europe’s largest annual tabletop and board gaming fair welcome the Play! Pokémon programme for the first time.

Their booth (2-C119) will be in Hall 2, where attendees will have a chance to battle, hang out with other players, and win prizes.

The SPIEL Special is their headline event, a two-day competition that will take place on Saturday 15th – Sunday 16th October. Victorious competitors can claim Championship Points, a trophy and other prizes, with the competition being Standard format with Swiss rounds on the first day and a single-elimination Top 8 on the second. Swiss rounds will be single-game matches, while the Top 8 rounds will be best-of-three.

On Sunday, attendees can team up with a friend to compete in the Zweilous Cup. This competition will allow a player and their chosen partner to compete for match points, with prizes based on their combined score.

Alongside this, there will be League Challenges, sealed Prerelease-style events, and Win-a-Mat events scheduled across the weekend.

Pokémon National Championships broadcasters David Hochmann and Julian Scharf will provide expert commentary and will let attendees step into the commentary booth to see what it’s like to cover Pokémon events.

The Pokémon Company clarifies that some Pokémon TCG events will have an admission fee, which will come in addition to the entry cost to attend SPIEL 2016.

SPIEL 2016 will take place between Thursday 13th – Sunday 16th October 2016 in Essen, Germany.
