Abylight Studios has announced that Citadelum will be released on Nintendo Switch 2 this month.
From developer Abylight Barcelona, this is a city builder set in Ancient Rome. You will be challenged to construct your own settlement, gather resources and evolve it to become a magnificent city.
Exploring the world map, you can establish trade routes, train and lead your legions into battle, and deal with the Gods of the Pantheon. You can either choose to receive their divine gifts or face their wrath, based on your level of devotion.
The game comes to the portable home console successor with the new features introduced in Version 2.0 “Julius,” and five different historical campaigns.
The developer has outlined the game’s key features, which include:
- 5 complete campaigns: The Rise of the Roman Empire, featuring Augustus, The Last Conqueror of Britannia, The Lost Eagles of Germania, The Gallic Wars (Julius Caesar) and The Third Punic War.
- New UI and controls optimised for gamepad and portable mode on the new console.
- 1080p resolution on portable mode, 4K output on docked mode.
- Every biome released for PC: Italy, Hispania, Egypt, Germania, Britannia, Gallia and Carthage.
- Deep gameplay options including complex production chains, diplomatic relations, trials, secondary missions, health and salubrity and wonders.
- Complete battle system including auto battle, orders and battle simulations.
- Quality of life improvements.
Citadelum will be released digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide on 22 January 2026.
