Nintendo of Europe have today confirmed that Square Enix’s JRPG classic Chrono Trigger is due to release across the region through their Virtual Console service on May 20th.

Originally released in 1995 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Chrono Trigger was created by a pool of developmental talent, including Yuji Horii, creator of the Dragon Quest series, Akira Toriyama, creator of Dragon Ball, and the creators of Final Fantasy.

Hailed as one of the greatest games of all time by both critics and fans alike, Chrono Trigger features a unique and multifaceted storyline that revolutionised the world of RPGs – multiple endings were incorporated, with the player’s actions and side quests determining the outcome.

The story centres upon a newly developed teleportation device which malfunctions at the Millennial Fair. Young Crono must travel through time to rescue his unfortunate companion from an intricate web of past and present perils, with each decision you make affecting the past, present and future.

Square Enix previously confirmed that Chrono Trigger would release on Virtual Console today across North America.
