After re-opening Avalanche Software, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has revealed more on Cars 3: Driven To Win, a competitive racing game starring characters from the upcoming Disney Pixar film.

With more than 20 customisable playable characters, the game takes place after the final race in the film and extends the storyline as Lightning McQueen and Cruz Ramirez take on rival racer Jackson Storm in a high-speed competition. That will take place across more than 20 unique tracks set in 13 different locations, using settings seen in the film such as Radiator Springs and Florida International Speedway.

There are six modes that players can tackle, firstly progressing their character through training and racing proficiency tests to unlock new modes, tracks and characters. With skills and abilities such as Drifting, Turbo, Two-wheel Driving, Driving Backwards and Side-Bash, each lends themselves toward learning deeper gameplay mechanics on your road to victory.

Players can also look forward to local spit-screen cooperative play, opening the chance to compete or team up together – although, we’ll have to wait to see whether this will work differently in Tabletop or Handheld mode on Nintendo Switch.

“It’s been an amazing experience to work with the team at Pixar once again for this new game for the beloved Cars franchise,” enthused John Blackburn, vice president and general manager at Avalanche Software. “With Cars 3: Driven to Win, we wanted to create a game that allows fans to extend their experience with this great film, and also feel the thrill of speeding through the tracks, participating in races, and mastering tricks and techniques for fun with the whole family.”

Cars 3: Driven to Win will release on Nintendo Switch and Wii U in June 2017.
