Carmack: Not enough time for Doom 3: BFG Edition on Wii U

John Carmack would have liked to have brought Doom 3: BFG Edition to Wii U, yet a “very, very busy developmental schedule” hasn’t allowed it to happen.

“Another thing that’s interesting with Doom 3, is that we’re at this point where we have this really nice modernised code base now that runs on the consoles,” Carmack explained at QuakeCon 2012.

“It’s sort of spiffied up in [id] tech 4 on there, and I wish we kinda could deploy this other places.

“I love platforms, I love looking for the fun things you can do on different ones, and I’ve been bringing up quietly in a bunch of the meetings ‘Y’know, we could go ahead and make a Vita version, a Wii U version, an iPhone and Android version.’

“All these would be reasonable platforms for us to take this technology where it wouldn’t necessarily be the case for [id] tech 5, but we do have a very, very busy developmental schedule and nothing else is really planned for that.”
