It is hard to believe that it has been a year since Yooka-Laylee was successfully backed on Kickstarter, and, to mark the occasion, Playtonic Games has shared the “star performers” in their spiritual successor to the beloved Banjo-Kazooie.

We now learn that cunning buzzness executive Capital B will be the game’s devious villain, who, after his Diabolical Publishing Corporation made a hostile takeover of “ingenious tech firm” Quack Corp, will see him look to absorb all the world’s literature and convert it into pure profit.

Yooka and Laylee must therefore collect Pagies to explore the magical Grand Tomes held captive in Hivory Towers, seeking to unlock their ancient secrets in an effort to thwart Capital B’s scheme.

Shiny collectibles are promised, whether that be Tasty Butterfly Energy that refills the player’s health and power meter or Quills that can be used to purchase and unlock moves from serpent salesman Trowzer. These can be unlocked in any order, with Playtonic looking to empower player choice in such way as well as adding Tonic gameplay modifiers to let you customise your play style.

Beyond this we learn about two new supporting characters in the “ruthless, exosuit-wearing fowl” Dr. Quack, and the “tentacled technician” Dr. Puzz. Quack has created all manner of crude inventions, while Puzz is compared to Mumbo Jumbo in that she will let you access Yooka-Laylee’s “wild and wonderful transformations.”

These will be revealed in the near future, with Playtonic confirming that they will be at E3 2016 next month. We’re certainly looking forward to seeing what they have next to share!
