Call of Duty Elite coming to an end on Friday

Activision have confirmed plans to end their Call of Duty Elite subscription service this week, having been first introduced alongside 2011’s Modern Warfare 3.

An extensive Shutdown FAQ discusses their reasoning behind such decision, sharing that it “was designed to work with prior Call of Duty games and has begun winding down support for those titles since late last year.”

That largely revolves around the fact that a majority of the service’s features are now becoming increasingly incorporated within the franchise’s annual entries, meaning that there was little reason behind subscribing in any case.

There are no plans for it to return, with Elite Founders retaining their special emblem and will receive two hours of Double XP in Call of Duty: Ghosts in thanks for their support.
