Ysbryd Games and Nautilus Games have announced that their “lonely, desolate, yet hope-filled 2D adventure” Everdeep Aurora is coming to Nintendo Switch.
You must journey through civilization’s subterranean refuge as Shell, a cat hoping to reunite with her mother after catastrophic meteor showers scatter their family. Drill ever deeper beneath the Earth’s surface, you will create your own platforming opportunities in procedurally generated rocky tiles.
With friendships to forge with Everdeep’s charismatic citizens and quests that strengthen your bond with them, you could find peace in Aster’s hidden garden or power up Shell’s drill with Remulus’ blacksmith skills.
“Choosing a limiting factor such as the small colour palette available to the NES forced us to challenge ourselves and create a whimsical world with built-in character,” explains Nautilus Games co-founder Mikel Ojea. “We hope explorers find themselves in a simpler era as they immerse themselves in the Everdeep.”
The publisher has outlined the game’s key features, which include:
- As you descend, your decisions determine Shell’s route through the depths, from secret caverns to sprawling underground dwellings.
- Encounter characters along the way with unique personalities and, sometimes, optional side quests.
- Atmospheric pixel art and an evocative soundtrack, with palettes and musical themes shifting from one location to the next.
Everdeep Aurora will be released digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide in Q3 2025.
