Bloomberg Backs New Nintendo Switch Model Rumours

With a rumour swirling that a new Nintendo Switch model will enter production for release in early 2021, Bloomberg has backed up the original report.

That saw the Taipei-based Economic Daily News claim that “unidentified people in the supply chain” have revealed to them that Nintendo is preparing to launch a “new version” of the portable home console early next year.

Bloomberg has weighed in that “an upgraded model” will release next year alongside a lineup of new games, citing “people familiar with the matter.” Nintendo has reportedly explored “including more computing power and 4K high-definition graphics,” and the games that they are preparing will continue their efforts to target multiple demographics.

The plans would also go some way to explain why their first-party output has been so quiet this year, although the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic will have clearly had an unexpected impact.

Back in March 2019, The Wall Street Journal first reported that the company was working on new models that would target hardcore and casual markets. The Nintendo Switch Lite was revealed months later, alongside a revised standard model with improved battery life.

Rumours resurfaced around a new Nintendo Switch model releasing in mid-2020, with another adding that a “next-gen” portable home console had been delayed due to technical issues.

While Nintendo Switch production has “largely recovered” from the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the world, Nintendo has indicated that they had “no plans” for a new model in 2020.
