Devolver Digital and more8bit have announced that their “enthralling lo-fi battler” Bleak Sword DX will release on Nintendo Switch.

Promised to be “pure, thrilling and wonderfully cruel,” this dark fantasy action game will challenge you to fight your way through compact, cursed diorama battlefields. There are 12 “tense and deeply atmospheric chapters” that await you, in which you seek to lift the curse of the legendary Bleak Sword – striking down horrifying creatures with fierce weaponry and powerful magic.

Scored by award-winning composer Jim Guthrie and with sound provided by famed designer Joonas Turner, the port expands on the original Apple Arcade version “with elegant controls, three new game modes, and multiple gameplay and graphical improvements.”

The publisher has outlined the game’s key features as below:

  • Brutal New Game Modes: DX includes all original Bleak Sword chapters plus the three DLC chapters complete with new level and enemy layouts. Randomizer throws players into a remixed version of the original game where levelling up or facing bosses in order is not guaranteed. Boss Rush challenges players to face all 12 bosses back to back, with only one health bar.
  • Dynamic Gameplay Improvements: New attacks, parries and counters compliment a streamlined control system designed specifically for PC and console, while enhanced enemy AI makes them more unpredictable.
  • Stunning Graphical Enhancements: New post-processing effects, adaptive depth of field and a series of filters give Bleak Sword DX a fresh lick of paint, while particle effects, foliage and weather enhancements bring a new level of atmosphere and immersion to the world.

Bleak Sword DX will release digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide “later this year.”
