Nintendo Switch 2 is only compatible with a new standard of expandable storage called microSD Express, which allows for faster data reading and writing speeds.
The bad news is that this means that the standard microSD card you have been using with your original Nintendo Switch is not compatible with Nintendo Switch 2, meaning that you will have to purchase a new one.
At launch, there are two brands that will offer licensed microSD Express cards for Nintendo Switch 2: Samsung and SanDisk. These products have been verified for compatibility with the portable home console’s successor, so they will be your most reliable starting point.
There are other options for those looking for larger capacity storage, such as Lexar, who lay claim to having produced “the world’s first 1TB microSD Express card.”
