Nintendo has confirmed that Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 will be removed from the Nintendo eShop for Wii U next week.

“As of Sept. 19, the Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 games for the Wii U system will no longer be available for purchase on Nintendo eShop. Both games will still be available for purchase in Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo Switch system,” a Nintendo of America spokesperson explained to USGamer.

While no reason was given for their removal, it is believed to be connected to the licensed music that is used in both games. Bayonetta uses Bart Howard’s “Fly Me to the Moon,” while the sequel has Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer’s “Moon River.”

With the momentum behind Nintendo Switch and interest in Wii U forever dwindling, we can speculate that Nintendo made a decision not pay to extend the licenses on the unsuccessful console.

Those that are interested in buying the games digitally can do so until 19th September 2019. While those that have previously purchased them will still be able to re-download them after they are removed.
