Battlefield 4 skips Wii U to avoid risk

Having been formally announced yesterday at the Game Developers Conference (GDC), we now learn that Battlefield 4 won’t release on Wii U.

The reasons behind the decision are to avoid stretching the development team too thinly and risking the project, according to creative director Lars Gustavsson

“I think overall for me as creative director, number one is to deliver a really great game and experience,” Gustavsson confessed to Videogamer.com, whilst discussing Battlefield 4 on Wii U.

“Sometimes, at least for us, it’s focus on what you do well and what you know well, and ensure that you deliver something good than trying a bit too much, stretching yourself too thin and risking it.

“I’d rather play it safe, deliver something really good and then look at the future and what could possibly be done than trying a bit too hard and [failing].”

It perhaps isn’t surprising after the disquiet between EA and Nintendo, joining Dead Island Riptide and Saints Row 4 which also aren’t releasing on the console.
