Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced that Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster is coming to Nintendo Switch, revealed in this week’s Nintendo Direct presentation.
This remastered collection contains both Baten Kaitos games that were originally released on the GameCube, Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean and Baten Kaitos Origins.
You will take the role of a Guardian Spirit and must guide each game’s protagonist and their companions through their journey, defeating enemies using “distinct card-based RPG systems that allow for split-second decisions that edge participants closer to victory.”
Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean tells the story of Kalas who, while seeking revenge for the death of his brother and grandfather, meets Xelha – both embarking on a journey to defeat the Alfard Empire.
Whereas Baten Kaitos Origins is set 20 years before the events of the first game. Its story involves Sagi, a spiriter that has a connection with Guardian Spirits and who is part of the Dark Service – an elite unit of the Alfard Empire. After he is framed, he sets out on a journey to clear his name and uncover the empire’s secrets.
You can expect “upgraded graphics, improved usability, and quality of life improvements that will enhance the experience of the original work.” To have Japanese voice-over with English subtitles, the developer has worked to stabilise the frame rate while adding new features like encounters-off, auto-battle, skip cutscenes and auto-save to make the experience more accessible to new players.
Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster will release at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch in Summer 2023.
