Hamster Corporation has announced that Arcade Archives 2 Ridge Racer is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, news that was shared in this week’s Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 presentation.
The racing game was originally released way back in 1993, and lets you experience the essence of virtual reality with the 3D CG system, “System 22.”
There are four game modes, including three difficulty levels – Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced – as well as Time Trial (T.T.), where you compete one-on-one against a rival car to achieve the best time. The DX version with support for an H-shifter and clutch is also included.
The Arcade Archives series was started in May 2014, looking to faithfully reproduce classic arcade games. With Arcade Archives 2, the user interface has been completely redesigned.
In addition to the Original Mode, High Score Mode and Caravan Mode that were included in the Arcade Archives series, the Arcade Archives 2 series will add new features like Time Attack Mode and Network Mode.
In Time Attack Mode, you compete to see who can beat the final boss the fastest starting from the first battle. The focus is on how quickly you can complete the game, regardless of what score you achieve. Whereas in Network Mode, you can play against other users online.
However, Time Attack Mode and Network Mode will not be implemented in every game. As Arcade Archives 2 Ridge Racer is a single-player game, Network Mode has not been implemented, for example.
The developer has also “significantly enhanced” functionality with multiple save slots, a rewind feature that lets you retry gameplay, a quick start feature that helps you dive straight into the game, and VRR support to enable “more accurate reproduction of the original arcade game’s experience.”
Arcade Archives 2 Ridge Racer will be released digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide on 5 June 2025.
