First Break Labs and LAVABIRD have confirmed a release date for their fast-paced turn-based tactics battler Warside on Nintendo Switch.

Having taken inspiration from genre-defining classics like Nectaris and the Advance Wars series, you will have the chance to mobilise 12 playable Commanders and more than 25 unit types as you set out to conquer land, sea and sky.

With tanks, warships, helicopters and more under your command, you will battle across forest, desert and ice environments to dominate your enemies and claim military superiority.

You will also be able to unleash Battle Powers such as Jackson’s EMP Blast which disables vehicles in an area, Beckett’s Orbital Strike which lets you rain energy beams from the sky, or Mordred’s Rage that forces enemy units to attack each other during their turn.

“Warside is a love letter to the turn-based-tactics games of the last three decades,” the developer explains. “We grew up captivated by genre-defining classics like Nectaris and the Advance Wars series. These games sparked our passion, and we’ve eagerly embraced their modern successors like Battalion, Into The Breach, Wargroove, and UniWar.

“What if a new game could combine the best of the old with innovations from today? How could we refine the formula whilst retaining the charm of the classics?

“Warside is our answer. We combine the game mechanics you already love with new features to push the genre forward. We’ve blended gorgeous pixel art with modern rendering and lighting for a fresh yet nostalgic feel.

“Experience the ultimate mix of strategy and excitement with our epic single-player campaign and adrenaline-fueled online multiplayer matches. We’ve something for everyone, whether you’re a seasoned veteran or a fresh-faced recruit.”

The publisher has outlined the game’s key features, which include:

  • Intuitive turn-based gameplay with a familiar feel for fans of the classics.
  • 12 playable Commanders, each with unique passive skills and Battle Powers.
  • Control 25+ unit types. Simultaneously battle over land, air, and sea with ground forces, aircraft, and naval units.
