ProbablyMonsters has announced that its action rogue-like Storm Lancers is out now on Nintendo Switch, news that was shared in today’s Nintendo Direct presentation.
After crash landing on a living planet built around a powerful source of reality magic, you believe that you are facing your end. Unexplainably brought back to life, you are tasked with exploring this strange planet, journeying to its fractured core and fixing all of reality before it collapses.
Stepping into the world of Cryptica, you will be challenged to “master the art of frenetic combat, nimble evasions, and powerful augmentations” as you defeat the Harvesters, an alien machine race that feeds on life, energy, and magic.
In an experience that has been designed to give you a sense of adventure while constantly on the move, you must traverse five ever-shifting biomes where each leap, slash, and dash propels you deeper into a vibrant alien world – only to be met by even stronger and more challenging enemies.
“Storm Lancers was a fun and exciting challenge for us as the team built something truly distinctive in the rogue-like genre – native couch co-op in the game’s DNA,” explains ProbablyMonsters general manager and game lead for Storm Lancers, Jim Veevaert. “With colourful visuals and an easy-to-understand and challenging-to-master gameplay system, we can’t wait for players to step into the world of Cryptica together.”
The developer has outlined the game’s key features, which include:
- Challenging and Replayable Gameplay: Storm Lancers features Rogue-Like gameplay with combat centred on varied ability combos, encouraging players to use power-ups strategically and master their abilities so they can conquer dynamic runs and defeat the Harvester leader.
- Rogue-Like Runs: With each playthrough, players will discover new items throughout Cryptica that add immediate benefits and make that run’s playstyle unique, while also gaining permanent upgrades to their strength to help them come back better in their next attempt.
- Couch Co-op: Built from the ground up with co-op in mind, Storm Lancers provides an engaging experience for players who want to bring a friend along for the ride, allowing them to experiment with ability upgrades by synergising together and sharing power-ups that compound and complement varied playstyles.
- ’80s Retro Aesthetic: Storm Lancers captures the magic of watching Saturday morning cartoons with a vibrant art style inspired by ’80s anime favourites.
