Nintendo has shared an overview trailer for Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which is pitched as “the next evolution of 2D side-scrolling Super Mario Bros. games.”
After Prince Florian invites Mario and his friends to visit the Flower Kingdom, Bowser and his army crash the party. Stealing a Wonder Flower, Bowser merges with Prince Florian’s castle which transforms him into a floating fortress.
With Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, Toad and Yoshi set to appear as playable characters, every course contains its own Wonder Flower that, once collected, could make anything happen.
The wonders of the world will unlock – whether that be pipes coming alive, hordes of enemies appearing, or a character’s appearance changing – promising to transform the gameplay in unpredictable ways.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder will be released at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 20 October 2023.
