3DS sees strong competition from PS Vita in Japan’s weekly sales chart

Software sells hardware as the adage goes, Japan’s weekly sales chart being a perfect demonstration of that.

The PlayStation Vita saw sales surge to 35,203 to top the hardware chart, whereas the Nintendo 3DS family of systems narrowly edged out their rival by selling 38,173 units collectively.

That was driven by four new games launching for Sony’s handheld, with Bandai Namco’s God Eater 2: Rage Burst sitting atop the software chart with 234,180 copies sold. The only other new releases were for PlayStation 4, in The Order: 1886 and Dead or Alive 5: Last Round, which didn’t result in the same bump. While the 3DS didn’t see any new arrivals, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D held strong with a further 71,181 copies sold to remain in second.

  1. Soo lets seee, since the numbers for the PSvita include both the regular and slim modle (which does not have an oled screen).. Let’s just add these numbers New3ds, New3dsll, 3ds, and 3dsll.. That is 38,173 3ds’ to 35,203 psv’s.. heck lets add in the Vita tv as well… That still makes the vita 35,203 with all it’s version compared to 38,173 with all the 3DS version..
