Nintendo 3DS sales outpacing PS3 and 360 in UK

Nintendo 3DS sales across the United Kingdom are no outselling those of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Nintendo have shared.

Their claim is supported by sales data provided by GfK Chart-Track, which shows that the handheld has surpassed both consoles within the last three months, largely driven by key first-party software including Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Luigi’s Mansion 2.

Startlingly despite other key releases across other platform holders – such as BioShock Infinite, The Last of Us – it is the only console that has seen a year-on-year sales increase compared to last year.

“Software sells hardware. You must have heard that from us a lot. And the same can be said for Wii U as we move into peak season,” Nintendo UK’s head of consumer marketing James Honeywell explained to MCV.

“With such a strong line-up of titles that are so critically acclaimed, it is just a perfect storm. It has made it the format of the moment.

“Sometimes 3DS, or handheld in general, suffers because people tend to focus on the home console market. But 3DS is really doing the numbers right now.”
