Nintendo of America has announced that Nintendo Switch has become the fastest-selling system in the company’s history.

Nintendo Switch sold more than 906,000 units across the United States in March according to the NPD Group, but that wasn’t the only success that Nintendo could celebrate.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sold over 1.3 million copies, which saw more than 925,000 copies sold for Nintendo Switch and nearly 460,000 copies for Wii U. That not only saw Link’s open-air adventure become the fastest-selling Nintendo launch game of all time, but it also became the fastest-selling game in The Legend of Zelda series.

It’s interesting to note that more copies on Nintendo Switch were sold than actual consoles, with Nintendo reasoning that many will have chosen to buy a limited edition as a collector’s item and a second copy to play.

“Nintendo always strives to offer consumers something fun, new and different,” Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime enthused. “With its various play modes and the innovative features of the Joy-Con controllers, Nintendo Switch provides unique experiences that people can take with them anywhere and share with anyone.”

Nintendo of America noted that while Nintendo Switch sales were off to a record-breaking start, shipments have not been able to keep up with the high demand that surrounds the console. They assure that they are working hard to make sure that more consoles are continually being shipped to retailers.
