Nintendo Switch Launch Sales Hit 80,000 In UK

Interest will now swirl around the Nintendo Switch launch sales, especially given that the console arrives after the widespread disinterest that the Wii U had suffered.

Thankfully, the console has started well. GamesIndustry.biz reports that Nintendo Switch has sold approximately 80,000 units in the United Kingdom over the launch weekend to more than double what Wii U had achieved in the same period.

That is still comparatively below Wii (105,000), Nintendo 3DS (113,000), Xbox One (150,000) and PlayStation 4 (250,000), even though Nintendo Switch stock has become particularly limited across the country.

It is worth remembering that Nintendo Switch has launched in March, and, therefore, wouldn’t have typically been expected to have driven as many sales in comparison to the holiday season.

Still, retailers are apparently pleased with the console’s launch, with one reportedly stating: “Nintendo is back.”

Nintendo will now look to capitalise on their early success with a steady release schedule over the coming months, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, Splatoon 2, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Super Mario Odyssey all locked in for 2017.
