Yacht Club Games has announced that Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove and Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment will release on Nintendo Switch.

Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove will be a new name to most, and makes the transition from what we previously knew as Shovel Knight.

Those that already own Shovel Knight on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS will automatically own Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, continuing to receive the scheduled content for free. That will include King Knight’s separate campaign and a four-player Battle Mode, which will both release later in the year.

When the update becomes available, players will also be given the chance to purchase Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows, Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment, and the original game, which has been renamed Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope, as standalone versions.

“We want to keep our promise of releasing free content for all players. We also want to continue building these campaigns and features to be the best!” Yacht Club Games explained in a FAQ, providing the reasoning behind their decision.

“Somewhere along the way, the game has simply gotten too big! It’s difficult for many players out there to find everything or even know that these campaigns exist.

“We believe that providing standalone versions will provide better entry points for different types of players and allow more people to continue enjoying each adventure on their next favourite platform.”
