It hasn’t been long since a rumour swirled that the “surprise” Nintendo Switch game that Ubisoft has repeatedly teased will turn out to be a turn-based RPG that sees the Raving Rabbids invade the Mushroom Kingdom.

With the working title Mario RPG: Invasion of the Rabbids, the game’s premise will unsurprisingly, given the name, see the Mushroom Kingdom invaded by the ever energetic Rabbids, with a Rabbids-themed Bowser to appear as a recurring boss enemy.

Now, in a video filmed at Ubisoft’s recent 30th anniversary party, that rumour has started to carry more weight. Fire Mario, Luigi, and Toad Rabbids can be briefly seen in the opening 30 seconds, where an attendee is taking quick snaps of the models, sat on a bookshelf, on his phone.

Later we can see South Park’s Cartman, Kyle, Kenny, and Stan in Rabbid-form, suggesting the publisher’s fascination with creating Rabbids around properties that they are working with.

“What we wanted to do with this event is to show all the expertise in various fields that Ubisoft has today in video games, but also beyond,” event project manager Coralline Dufour explains in the video. “And, of course, a sneak peek at what will come next with the games [still] to launch.”

It’s unlikely that we will hear any more until the Nintendo Switch Presentation 2017, which will be broadcast on Friday 13th January.

Nintendo Switch will release worldwide in March 2017.
