With this week’s Apple Special Event and PlayStation Meeting 2016 now over, it is a long overdue moment for Nintendo NX to be placed in the spotlight.

Super Mario Run‘s announcement has understandably created a lot of excitement around Nintendo, not least seen in the fact that the company’s share price leapt by more than 26 percent.

We can be pleased to see how the moustachioed plumber and Pokémon GO have shown that Nintendo can still attract wider consumer interest around the world, but it is their next “dedicated game platform” that many hope will truly send tongues wagging.

In a wider article that discusses reactions to Super Mario Run’s announcement, The Wall Street Journal has spoken to numerous analysts who say that they expect Nintendo NX to be revealed “by early October.” If a reveal event is on the cards Nintendo may date their plans before Tokyo Game Show 2016, which will be held at the Makuhari Messe between Saturday 17th – Sunday 18th September.

Their silence so far has certainly allowed excitement to build, but it is important to start their marketing activities around Nintendo NX to increase consumer awareness and help retailers build interest as the console’s March 2017 release nears. But, Nintendo is acutely aware that they must successfully execute their plans after the confusion that had surrounded Wii U.

“One of the things that we have to do better when we launch the NX – we have to do a better job communicating the positioning for the product,” Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime had admitted at E3 2016.

“We have to do a better job helping people to understand its uniqueness and what that means for the game playing experience. And we have to do a better job from a software planning standpoint to have that continuous beat of great new games that are motivating more and more people to pick up the hardware and more and more people to pick up the software.

“Those are the critical lessons. And as I verbalise them, they’re really traditional lessons within the industry. You have to make sure people understand the concept, you have to make sure you’ve got a great library of games, and when you do that, you tend to do well.”

Nintendo has repeatedly confirmed that Nintendo NX will release worldwide in March 2017.
