The secrecy that shrouds Nintendo NX is starting to lift, after it emerged that the platform will be a portable, handheld console that has detachable controllers, with a price point that will be “cheaper than even the vast majority expect.”

Now, rumours emerge that Pokémon, a new Mario game and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will lead the Nintendo NX launch window software line-up, all arriving with the first six months after the console’s release.

“Developer Game Freak will bring Pokémon to the platform, while Nintendo’s first party titles include the previously announced Zelda game – Breath of the Wild – and a new Mario game,” MCV reports. “All three products are scheduled to appear within the first six months of the machine’s life.”

The trade publication adds that Nintendo has worked hard to secure third-party support, with SEGA, Square Enix, Ubisoft, Activision and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment all behind the console.

Their sources added that the leaks around the console’s concept are “100 percent accurate,” while graphical prowess will sit “somewhere between a PS3 and PS4.” That will see Nintendo target smartphone and hardcore players, although an executive that has played the console warned that “it won’t appeal to PS4 fans.”

“It’s a nice bit of kit, a bit of a novelty, but a good one,” an executive who has had hands-on with the console explained. “It won’t appeal to PS4 fans. Nintendo seems set on trying to upgrade smartphone gamers. That’s going to be a big job for the marketing department.”
